Questions to ask when reading the Bible:

Reasoning

  • Can you tell the story in your own words?

  • What are we learning about God?

  • What are we learning about people?

Feelings

  • How did the characters in the story feel?
  • How did you feel as you read the story out loud?

Application

  • Is there an example you want to follow?
  • Is there a command that we should obey?
  • Did you come across a principle that you would like to put into practice?
  • Based on these verses, what do you want to change in your life?
  • Who would you like to tell about the things you discovered?

Useful questions when reading the Bible in a group:

Past

  • What happened last week that brought you and/or those around you joy?
  • What happened that made you and/or the people around you sad?
  • How did you experience God as you applied the verses we read?
  • Who did you explain it to and how did they respond?

Present

  • What does this teach us about God?
  • What does this teach us about people/ourselves?

Future

  • Based on these verses, what do you want to change in your life?
  • With whom would you like to share your discoveries?
