Key chapters from the Old and New Testament

Living water

Introduction

Think of the metaphor of trying to use a map that has been seriously changed. The map has been drawn so that paths and bridges lead to dead-end streets, the names of the roads have been changed and signposts point in the wrong direction.

Because this map leads us in the wrong direction, when we try to find our way according to the map, we end up in a worse condition than we were before. Also, when we remain tied to a distorted and broken internal map, our lives become equally confused and difficult. False thinking and ideas drag us into failure.

Unfounded and false beliefs bring about spiritual imprisonment and death. This is why truth and deception, belief and disbelief are important subjects in the Word of God.
Our beliefs direct our lives. This is true not only with our beliefs about God, but also concerning everything we believe and are convinced of about ourselves, other people and the world.

Correct beliefs bring freedom and life. Putting what is true in place of incorrect beliefs and convictions, leads to positive change in our lives. We only can be truly free when truth has taken its place in our heart.

You will know the truth and the truth will set you free.
John 8:32

When we give God permission to focus us on the truth, He enlightens our hearts, changes us and makes it possible for us to be used as lights in the world.
Truth is tied more to being able to see the way God sees than focusing on what we do. When our beliefs are based on God’s view of things, all of the contradictions in our minds and hearts are removed. As we begin to see things the way God sees them, everything in our lives begins to become positive.

This book contains key chapters of the Bible and questions about these chapters. If no particular verses are identified, a single number stands for the entire chapter.

This booklet has been prepared so that we can discover the truths of the Word of God. There are different ways to reach this goal. We want to share some of these ways with you:

We believe you will be blessed and understand it better if you talk with someone about what you read. Otherwise, if you read by yourself, write down your answers to the questions after you have read a chapter.

There is a star (*) at the beginning of each *question which is written in italics. If the question is regarding certain verses, then the reference for those verses will be given in parenthesis (Chapter: verse number).

We have found the most helpful way to read the passages is to first read the text out loud as a group (you can ask your friends, relatives or simply interested people to join).
Then invite everyone to answer and share their ideas to the first question asked. After everyone has spoken, go to the next question.
If you need help finding others to read with, feel free to contact us!

Sharing our ideas alongside the ideas of others can open up new horizons and lead us to a deeper understanding of God’s Word.
When we share the blessings we have received from God’s Word, we receive even more blessings.
If the Lord blesses you with a new perspective, or if you discover a new truth that you hadn’t seen before as you are reading, and you share this with others, you will notice how the blessing increases.

Most importantly: before you read God’s word, pray,
“Oh Lord, help me be able to see your truths.”
Our Lord who created us for Himself will joyfully answer this desire of our hearts.
